Adam Thomas has issued a touching tribute to his wife Caroline after he received a big wake up call earlier this week. The Waterloo Road actor, 37, thanked his wife publicly for supporting him amid his struggles with psoriatic arthritis, describing her as ‘the best wife’.

The former Emmerdale actor first shared his battle with arthritis a few years ago when he was 34. Adam told his fans how he had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) ahead of him taking part in Strictly Come Dancing back in 2023. The actor from Manchester revealed his symptoms began in his knees, before moving to his wrists, fingers, ankles and toes.

His diagnosis later changed to psoriatic arthritis, which the NHS describes as a “long-term condition that causes joint pain, swelling and stiffness”. Adam has now paid a loving tribute to his partner, who he met in 2007 aged 19. The couple got married at Delamere Manor in Cheshire in 2017 and share their son, Teddy and daughter, Elsie-Rose.

Sharing a photo with his 1.2 million Instagram followers on Sunday (February 1), which saw Caroline helping with his injections, Adam wrote: “Shoutout to my wife Caroline, genuinely the best mother, the best wife, NURSE and somehow still my best friend after 18 years together.

“This past month she’s been everything…always supporting me, always there, holding it down in ways big and small. From meal preps to keeping me on top of my medication (yes I still can’t inject myself) deep chats sitting in the bath together trying to solve life like we actually know what we’re doing.”We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve argued (obviously), but I wouldn’t change a single bit of it. I adore that after all these years, you’re still the person I want to talk to first, laugh with the most, and be completely myself around. I told you this morning and I’ll say it again, I love growing with you! And massive congratulations on winning Family Member of the Month, well deserved. Haha Keep up the good work. I love you.”

Earlier this week, Adam said he had suffered a ‘wake-up call’ after becoming ‘complacent’ with his health. In a post shared to Instagram on Tuesday (January 27), Adam admitted he’d suffered a setback as he told his followers: “Stop thinking you’re invincible, because you’re not!

“Over the past few days, I’ve felt it creeping back in, the pain in my wrists, my fingers, then the psoriasis came back too! Over Christmas, I got complacent, I missed my injections, I thought it will be fine! But how wrong was I… a few days ago I had a big wake up call literally! I woke up in the middle of the night with severe pain in my wrists, in that moment, I went straight back to that scared little boy I used to be, living with pain and fear.

“Don’t get me wrong, the pain has eased a bit since, maybe I slept on it funny, I’m not sure, but I know I’m not pain free anymore! Something’s changed…”The meds I’m on, your body can get used to them, miss them, and they can stop working altogether, that thought scares the s*** out of me! Im hoping it’s just because I missed them and need to get back on track. Truth is… I got comfortable, I got lazy, I thought I’d beaten it, but I was wrong…”

He continued: “It’s still there, I can feel it, waiting…. truth is I don’t think you beat it, you just learn to live with it, control it! This is a reminder to myself, and to anyone else who needs to hear it,don’t get comfortable, don’t get lazy, don’t think you’re invincible. I need to start taking care of my body again! Yes am enjoying training at the moment, but maybe I just need to not over do it so much, and focus on listening to my body again. Stay consistent adam x and look after your self.”
