UNBELIEVABLE: A Place in the Sun guest BREAKS DOWN in tears as host ‘Takes Things Too Far’.

One guest on A Place in the Sun ended up in tears as they said that their expert host had “taken things too far”. Presenter Ben Hillman was helping credit manager Candy and construction worker Mark find their dream home in the sun when things took an emotional turn.

A Place in the Sun on Channel 4

The episode, which originally aired on May 1, 2023, saw the couple on the hunt for a property in Almería, Spain, with a budget of just £75k. The buyers, who were both originally from Kent, explained that they wanted a three-bed with views and traditional features. Mark also shared that he was keen on having enough space to build himself a swimming pool as he “wanted something to do”, so they would not be put off if a property needed to have a bit of work done. Taking all of the buyers’ considerations into account, property expert Ben decided to show them around a 1940s village property in Rambla de Oria as he admitted that it could be a “big project”.

Initially, Mark and Candy seemed to be impressed with the house and had quite a positive reaction as Ben showed them around. However, as they saw more and more of the potential home, reality dawned on them and they decided that they weren’t quite feeling it after all, noticing the extent of the work that would need to be done.

Standing in the dining space, Candy confessed: “I’m just not feeling this at all.” The Channel 4 host replied: “I understood you incorrectly. I know you said a project is fine and the fact you are a builder as well.” He then asked: “Have I run away with that?”

Cindy then admitted that the level of renovations needed was actually very “daunting”. She said: “I’m finding that a little bit more daunting, the level of renovations so maybe we’ve not made it entirely clear? One of two rooms need a project, but this to me is quite daunting.”

Her emotions then got the better of her as her voice shook and her eyes filled with tears as she started to cry. Ben was quick to console her, asking: “You’re getting emotional… What’s going on? It’s not what you were imagining? Not what you were hoping for? This is a project too far is it?”

Candy admitted: “It is, I’m sorry.” But Ben was very understanding as he urged her not to apologise, adding: “This is all about finding you the right place.”

However in a happy turn of events, when the couple viewed the third house they became emotional for a very different reason. Mark exclaimed in joy: “I’m getting emotional now! It’s lovely.” Ultimately, Mark and Candy decided on a bid of £76,250 for their chosen home.
