BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty was taken aback on Thursday morning after a guest called her out live on-air
BBC Breakfast: Naga Munchetty grills Labour minister
BBC Breakfast descended into an uncomfortable moment as Naga Munchetty insisted “I’m just doing my job” after a guest called her out.
During Thursday’s (November 27) episode of the popular morning show, the presenter returned to our TV screens alongside co-host Charlie Stayt as they presented the day’s top stories from the UK and beyond.
For one segment, the duo was joined by Alan Cumming, who opened up about his new role as he swaps centre stage for a role behind the scenes as artistic director for Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
Talk soon turned to The Traitors as the star hosts the US version of the hit BBC show, however Naga appeared taken aback as Alan called her out on her “grilling”.
Starting off Naga asked: “Do you enjoy the treachery?” Alan replied: “I do. Everyone does and I think that is the thing.”
Naga pointed out: “I think you’re full of mischief.” Referring to a moment that happened earlier in the show, Alan said: “I am quite mischievous but so are you. I saw all that grilling you gave that man about the budget.”

A stunned Naga pulled a face as she replied: “I’m just doing my job.” Making light of the situation Alan said: “An excellent job, I like that.”
Turning attention back to The Traitors, Alan admitted: “You want to have good telly and conflict but the thing about the game is it makes them nuts, they go mad.
“You see by episode 5 or 6 and you sort of go ‘wait, why are you doing that for?’ because they have just gone mad and they sort of have some sort of pack mentality.”
Charlie changed the subject as he asked: “Do you watch current affairs, do you sit at home raging about interviews people do?”
Alan admitted: “Yes, especially in America people are not pressed enough. I think the shows are a lot more partisan there and I think that is annoying”

Keen to find out more, Charlie jumped in: “Do you think politicians get an earlier time over there than here.” Alan turned to Naga and replied: “Totally. No one could do what you did. Sorry I keep going on about it but I’m all for it.”
It comes as it was revealed that popular The Traitors UK host Claudia Winkleman may never have actually been part of the series.
BBC Chief Content Officer Kate Phillips recently admitted that the broadcaster and producer Stephen Lambert had originally asked Alan to present the British show.
“Alan Cumming had been signed to do the American one, so I thought that Alan was known here as a popular Scottish actor,” she told the Rest is Entertainment podcast. “Full disclosure, we did ask Alan if he would do it, but he couldn’t do our dates.”
