Kate Garraway Goes Public With New Boyfriend Two Years After Husband Derek’s Death! Kate and Liam Halligan couldn’t take their eyes off each other as they shared affectionate moments like a couple newly in love — while the star made an emotional decision about her wedding ring

Kate Garraway appears to be slowly opening her heart again — and those closest to her say seeing her smile like this after years of heartbreak has been deeply emotional.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 59, was spotted looking happier than ever as she supported broadcaster Liam Halligan during the Duchenne Dash charity bike ride in South London on Friday. Witnesses said the pair “couldn’t stop laughing” together, with Kate seen taking photos of Liam on her phone before the two posed side-by-side for cosy snaps.

Friends revealed the atmosphere around Kate was “giddy” and full of excitement as her close bond with Liam continues to grow nearly two years after the devastating death of her husband Derek Draper.

Observers also noticed a poignant detail that left many emotional — Kate has reportedly moved both her wedding and engagement rings from her left hand to her right hand as she carefully navigates life after Derek.

A close friend explained: “Kate always wants Derek close by. Taking the rings off her wedding hand was incredibly emotional for her, but she felt it was finally the right time.”

The decision reportedly came after she temporarily removed the rings while filming Celebrity Traitors last year. Instead of putting them away forever, Kate chose to continue wearing them on the opposite hand as a symbol of keeping Derek with her while allowing herself to slowly move forward.

Sources close to the presenter say Liam has brought genuine happiness back into her life after years dominated by grief and caregiving.

“It’s all going in the right direction,” one friend said. “Kate is still grieving Derek and she will never stop loving him. But Liam makes her laugh constantly and it’s beautiful to see her happy again.”

The pair have known each other for around 20 years through broadcasting circles, while Liam was also a longtime friend of Derek’s. Their friendship reportedly became much closer after they spent time together in Liam’s hometown of Saffron Walden earlier this year.

Although Kate has not publicly confirmed a romance, insiders say she “loves Liam’s company” and hopes their friendship could become something more serious in the future.

Liam, 57, is a columnist and broadcaster who is separated from journalist Lucy Ward. Friends say the connection between him and Kate has developed naturally over shared experiences, humour and emotional support.

Kate previously admitted she hoped romance would one day return to her life following Derek’s tragic death in January 2024 after his long battle with Covid complications.

Speaking last year on Jamie Laing’s podcast, she candidly said: “I wouldn’t like to think that I’d never had romantic love in my life again. I think that would be rather a sad way to go through life.”

However, she also confessed she still found the idea of dating difficult and emotional, adding: “I’m of the old school where you lived life, did things you loved and then met people along the way.”
