Tess Daly and Vernon Kay have stunned fans by announcing the end of their 23-year marriage in an emotional joint statement released on Friday.
The beloved TV couple, who married in 2003 and became one of Britain’s most recognisable showbiz pairings, confirmed they had made the heartbreaking decision to separate after “much consideration” and with “a deep sense of care and respect for one another.”
In their statement, Tess and Vernon insisted the split had been handled amicably and stressed that there were “no other parties involved” in the decision.

They said: “This has not been an easy choice, but it comes from a place of mutual understanding and a shared desire of what is best for both of us.
“We remain great friends and, most importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents, which will always be our priority.”
The pair also asked for privacy as they “navigate this transition together,” adding that they would not be making any further public comments.

Friends close to the couple reportedly admitted they were left completely blindsided by the separation, with one source saying: “It’s very, very sad. Nobody saw this coming.”
For years, Tess and Vernon had been viewed as one of the strongest marriages in British entertainment — even surviving Vernon’s infamous 2010 sexting scandal involving glamour model Rhian Sugden.
At the time, Tess was said to have been devastated after discovering Vernon had exchanged explicit messages with Rhian after meeting her at a nightclub in Bolton. Although the pair stayed together and rebuilt their relationship, the scandal continued to follow them for years.
Rhian later claimed in a documentary that the controversy “ruined everything” for her career, while Vernon publicly apologised and attempted to move on from the incident.
The shock announcement comes just days after reports suggested Tess and Vernon were preparing for a “new chapter” together following her departure from Strictly Come Dancing after 21 years on the BBC show.

Sources had claimed Tess wanted to finally enjoy a “grown-up gap year” with Vernon, travelling the world after decades of putting work and family first.
One insider previously revealed: “She is desperate to have a grown-up gap year and see the world with Vernon as she wants to do it while they still can.”
In a heartbreaking twist, those dreams now appear to have fallen apart completely.
The couple share two daughters — Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 16 — and had continued posting smiling family moments on social media in recent weeks, making the split even more shocking for fans.
Just days ago, Vernon shared a warm photo enjoying sunset drinks in London with daughter Phoebe, while Tess also appeared glamorous and relaxed during a rooftop evening out.
Now, behind the polished Instagram smiles, fans are realising one of British television’s longest-running love stories had quietly reached its end.
