Prince George’s billionaire godfather who owns huge buildings all over the US
Hugh Grosvenor, the 7th Duke of Westminster, is one of seven godparents to Prince George.
Prince George’s billionaire godfather is at the helm of a giant property firm with interests in the UK, North America and Asia. Hugh Grosvenor, 7th Duke of Westminster, inherited £9.5billion in 2024 after the death of his father, Gerald Grosvenor. The Duke and his family placed 14th on The Sunday Times rich list in 2025, worth a staggering £9.884bn
The Duke chairs the Grosvenor Trustees, a seven-strong group of people responsible for stewarding The Grosvenor Group, which deals in property, rural estate management and more. It manages buildings and squares in London’s exclusive Mayfair and Belgravia neighbourhoods as well as offices in Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Leeds.
Along with Bridge Investment Group, the company also invests in office properties in the United States. The Grosvenor Group has also teamed up with real estate private equity firm, FHR Capital, to invest in industrial property across the US. It also has interests in Canada, Australia and India, among others.
According to The Grosvenor Group, the Duke of Westminster is keen on responsible development and protecting biodiversity as the head of an organisation focused on making money and having a positive wider impact.
In 2017, the Grosvenor Group held land holdings of more than 1,500 properties in 60 countries, Tatler reported at the time.
The same publication described the billionaire land-owner as “a modest chap” who refuses to let his wealth define him.
Known as Hughie, the Duke, 35, reportedly spent much of his time at work behind a desk and playing cricket in his spare time.
He is one of seven godparents to Prince George, who is second in line to the throne after his father, Prince William.

The Prince of Wales and his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales broke royal tradition by mostly choosing friends as godparents rather than high-ranking aristocrats.
George was christened at St James’s Palace on October 23, 2013. His godmothers are William’s cousin, Zara Tindall, a psychotherapist, Julia Samuel and Emilia Jardine-Paterson, a close friend of Catherine’s.
Besides the Duke of Westminster, George’s godfathers are Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, who worked as William’s private secretary, the Waleses’ university chum, Oliver Baker, and William van Cutsem, a childhood pal of the Prince of Wales.
William, George, the Duke and his wife, Duchess Olivia, also share a passion for football. Last year, they were spotted cheering on Aston Villa during the side’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg with Paris Saint-Germain at Villa Park.
The Duke of Westminster was born in London on January 29, 1991, the third child of the 6th Duke and his wife, Natalia.
